Salome wanted her two sons, James and John, to sit beside Jesus when the Kingdom would be established. Ever since the beginning, people have wanted the positions of power, authority and honor. Jesus taught that to be great, we must be the least and to be first, we must be last. Then Jesus illustrated the point by His own example of One who had the right to be hightest (because He is), yet He gave up His position in glory to become the servant of all. Instead of everyone bowing to Him in service and sacrifice, He gave Himself as the ultimate gift and sacrifice for our redemption.
