Propitiation

Since the penalty for sin is spiritiual death, seperation from God, the hope of a restored relationship with our heavenly Father is not possible from our perspective. If there is any possiblity it must be based on the holy God's terms and conditions.  Since God is both just and gracious, He cannot just ignore, overlook or simply forgive our sin without the just penalty being applied to those who have violated His covenant and law.  While God preserved His justice, He became the justifier by giving His son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. This is the word propitiation which is found in most english translations. The ultimate price that was paid to redeem a sinful and lost humanity to a holy and perfect God.
