The people gathered to hear the Word of God read by Ezra, Nehemiah and the leaders explained the meaning and application. They fasted, wept, confessed in sackcloth and dust. They were devoted to restore their relationship and covenant with their God. They confessed their own sins, the sins of their fathers and the sins of the nation so that they would not continue to do evil and wickedness. They were blessed with worship, celebration and rejoicing.
