The constant external pressure, opposition, mocking and perseuction did not derail the continuing success of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. This came from the enemy of the Israelites, externally through the leaders of Gentile nations, but the initial source was from Satan, the deciever and the destroyer of lost souls. When the building of God's kingdom could not be stopped through external pressure, Satan turned to internal strife to divide and conquer the hearts of the workers. Many people were in distress because of a famine, children suffering, and short of resources. Sadly, there suffering workers were being taken advantage of by their fellow Jews. Nehemiah develops a strategy to bring justice, mercy and godly action and attitudes. Instead of this crisis destroying the progress, they overcame the issues and the wall was completed and the city was united.
