Paul knew that his live was almost over, his time is expiring. He is encouraging Timothy, perhaps thinking he would not see him again. At the end of 2 Timothy, he wants Timothy to make a special effort to come soon to visit Paul in prison. He wants his friend, his cloak, his books and the scrolls. Life can be challenging and death is final. Paul knew there was a reward, a crown and glory in the presence of God waiting for him when death comes.
