Nehemiah asks about the condition of the city of Jerusalem and quickly learns that the constuction and rebuilding is not going well.  It has been about 100 years since some of the Jews were allowed to return to rebuild the temple and the city, but progress is slow, interest is down and oppossition is on the rise.  Nehemiah is crushed and prays fervantly for something different for God's people and the honor of the Lord.
