Gideon led the 300 into a battle that God promised to win for His people. Israel wanted Gideon to be their ruler / king and he turned down the title. It seems like he enjoyed the position. Marrying many women and having 70 sons, building his wealth and expanding his fame. He even made a priestly garment for himself from the gold the people gave to Gideon. This icon soon became and idol that the people, including Gideon and his sons worshipped.  This was a violation of the covenant, it was spiritual adultery, God called it prostitution. When the Lord works powerfully in our life, we must continue to be faithful even through the victory.  The true test of a man's integrity and spiritual fotitude is usually now when he is in the valley of pain and suffering, but when he is on the mountain top of fame and success.  Make sure you are ready for the test, regardless what question may be on the exam.
